Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Indigenous History and Philosophy of Education
The Department of Educational Foundations, College of Education at the University of Saskatchewan is seeking an Indigenous teacher-scholar from Turtle Island with expertise in Indigenous history and philosophy of education to complement our offerings related to reconciliation, decolonization, equity, diversity and inclusion. Expertise grounded in interdisciplinarity, Indigenous research methodologies and languages, place-based, and sustainability education would be an asset.
The successful candidate will teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels in formal or community education settings and will employ experiential pedagogies. A social justice stance built on reconciliation, Indigenous theories and practices and anti-racist/anti-oppressive practices, is core to this position. Preference will be given to candidates who have education and research relating to the theories, perspectives, and practices of Indigenous education, history and philosophy of education, as well as community engagement experience. All faculty will conduct research, scholarly, and/or artistic work and contribute to collegial processes in the College of Education and the University of Saskatchewan.
The candidate will have completed, or near completion, a doctoral degree in an appropriate specialization. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to social justice and Indigenous pedagogies, relevant post-secondary teaching experience (K to 12 experience would also be an asset), a strong research agenda with potential for external funding success, alignment with Indigenous history and philosophy of education, Indigenous knowledge systems, reconciliation initiatives and the ability to work across disciplines with commitment to working collaboratively with Indigenous communities and incorporating Indigenous worldviews in research and teaching practices.
Educational Foundations plays a crucial role in the holistic development of pre-service and in-service teachers who are or will become members of the province’s professional teaching force, including in First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities. Furthermore, we continue to take action toward reconciliation and equity, diversity, inclusion, and decolonization through programming initiatives while we continue to demonstrate excellence in research through Tri-Council success, publications, and other forms of knowledge mobilization. Within the College of Education, the Department of Educational Foundations fosters innovation and collaboration through teaching, learning, discovery, and transformative pedagogy. Our undergraduate and graduate programs are designed to meet the diverse needs of First Nations, Metis, and Inuit communities, and connect faculty and students to local, national, and international contexts, while respecting the best traditions and meeting the highest standards of Canada's world-class research-intensive universities.

Salary band for this position: Assistant Professor $110,489 to $131,909.
