The Department of Sociology at Saint Mary’s University invites applications for a full-time, tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to commence January 1, 2025. We are seeking a candidate whose substantive research expertise speaks to contemporary matters that will foster undergraduate engagement. Areas can include, but are not limited to sport, violence, religion, matters connected to science and technology, social/digital media, and emerging trends in AI. Successful candidates will also show promise teaching research methodology and introductory sociology.

Experience and Education Requirements

Candidates must provide evidence of high quality and innovative teaching and scholarship. While preference will be given to candidates with a PhD in sociology, ABD candidates with a dissertation defense date scheduled may apply. Please note that only applicants with a PhD (or ABD) in sociology will be considered for this position. The deadline for applications is July 31st 2024.

Applications must include: 1) a cover letter; 2) a curriculum vitae; 3) a teaching dossier (including evidence of teaching effectiveness and course evaluations, if available); 4) a short research statement; 5) one example of recent peer reviewed, scholarly writing; 6) graduate transcripts; and 7) the names and contact information for three referees – only short-listed candidates will be asked to provide letters of reference. The Department of Sociology consists of 7 full-time faculty who teach in a thriving undergraduate program that emphasizes training in empirical sociological research. We have over 150 majors and a growing honours program.
