Associate Professor/Professor - Strategic Management

University of Toronto

The Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure stream appointment in the Strategic Management area. The appointment will be at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor and will commence on July 1, 2023, or shortly thereafter.

Applicants must have a PhD degree in Strategic Management or a cognate discipline (e.g., economics, sociology, health policy), and a demonstrated record of excellence in Strategic Management research and teaching in the area of healthcare and the life sciences. We especially value MBA and executive teaching experience.

The successful candidate will have an established international reputation, and a sustained record of outstanding, innovative and independent research. They publish articles in internationally-recognized top-ranked journals in strategy and cognate disciplines (e.g., Academy of Management Journal/Review, Administrative Science Quarterly, American Economic Review, American Journal of Sociology, Health Affairs, Management Science, Nature, Strategic Management Journal, and journals of similar caliber). We seek individuals that have an active research pipeline, that present their research at significant conferences, and that are involved in other noteworthy activities in Strategic Management related to healthcare and the life sciences.

Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence which can be demonstrated by a record of sustained high-impact contributions and publications in top-ranked and field relevant journals (as listed above), the submitted research statement, and conference presentations. Further evidence of research excellence includes awards and accolades and strong endorsements from referees of high standing.

Evidence of excellence in teaching at the undergraduate, graduate and executive level will be provided through teaching accomplishments, the teaching dossier, a teaching statement, sample course syllabi, and the teaching evaluations submitted as part of the application, as well as strong performance during the on-campus presentation for short-listed candidates.

Within the University of Toronto, the Strategic Management area has close ties with the Economics Department, the Sociology Department, the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, and the Munk Centre of Global Affairs and Public Policy. All Strategic Management PhD students pursue a graduate-level focus in Economics or Sociology.
