Chair, Electrical and Computer Engineering

Western University

Applications are invited for the position of Chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, effective September 1, 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter.

Candidates with an appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor at an academic institution will be considered. The expected term of appointment as Chair is five years and the appointment is renewable. The successful applicant will receive a tenured appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. The rank will be commensurate with the successful applicant’s qualifications and experience in teaching and research.

Successful candidates must have completed a PhD degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, or a relevant similar field. They need to provide evidence of excellence in research and impact through publications in high quality journals, and have an established, internationally recognized, externally-funded research program, with evidence of interdisciplinary collaboration. In addition, candidates must have an exceptional profile with respect to teaching and training of students at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The selected candidate will demonstrate leadership and dedication in achieving the Department’s and Faculty’s academic goals, as well as address the Department’s teaching, research and administrative responsibilities. Experience in facilitating, leading, and engaging a diverse faculty and staff complement is required. The successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, provide strong evidence of being a community consensus builder, and be committed to the development of the careers of all faculty and staff members of the Department. The successful candidate will have or be eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer in Ontario.

The successful candidate should demonstrate: (i) a vision for the Department which is forward thinking and based on quality; (ii) a vision that takes advantage of existing strengths and seeks higher international esteem and excellence for the Department; and (iii) a plan on how to improve integration and collaboration across the Department.
