Position Profile: The DAN Department of Management and Organizational Studies invites applications from exceptional candidates to fill a full-time limited-term position in Commercial Aviation Management (CAM); the initial period of service will be five years, with the possibility of renewal. The DAN Department of Management and Organizational Studies is an innovative and rapidly expanding interdisciplinary department in the Faculty of Social Science (FSS) at The University of Western Ontario (UWO) with more than 3,800 students enrolled. This unique department combines management studies with a strong foundation in the social sciences. Candidates demonstrating a commitment to working in an interdisciplinary environment will be preferred. FSS is the largest faculty at UWO with over 7,300 undergraduates and nearly 700 graduate students enrolled, and it is one of the largest and top-ranked social science faculties in Canada. Academic Expectations: We are seeking an aviation professional or scholar with a strong background across diverse areas of the aviation industry. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing and teaching new courses that support the growth of the CAM program within Western's BMOS degree, as well as contributing to the development of future programming both at the undergraduate and graduate level. The successful applicant will assist the CAM Director in managing the program relating to students and industry partners, as well as events the program supports. They will also be responsible for helping to assist student groups within CAM such as CAM Council and Western Aviatrix.

 

Qualifications or Experience and Skills Required:  Candidates must hold a relevant bachelor’s degree and one of the following:

  • A senior professional qualification (Airline transport pilot license (ATPL) with related work experience), OR 
    • A master’s degree with related work experience; OR
    • A PhD in aviation or a related field

 

Additional qualifications:

  • A working knowledge of flight training institutions
  • Specialization in one or more of the following areas is preferred:
    • air traffic control management
    • accident investigation and analysis
    • human factors in aviation
    • aviation cybersecurity expertise 
    • aviation regulations (CARS, FAA)
    • aviation law
  • A working knowledge of Canadian and international aviation groups and not-for-profits
  • Leadership experience
  • International experience in the aviation sector
  • Military experience or flight training experience
  • Teaching experience at the postsecondary level
  • Postsecondary program development at a university at the undergraduate or postgraduate level
  • Industry experience at a director/senior management level

 

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • A wide knowledge of the aviation industry;
  • The ability to connect theory to practice in the classroom; and
  • A dedication to student success, helping students achieve their goals in the aviation sector by offering personal experience and industry knowledge.
