Appointment Type and Rank: Tenured.  An appointment at the rank of Professor is preferred, but exceptional candidates at the rank of Associate Professor will be considered.

Position Profile: 

The holder of this Chair will be expected to conduct outstanding research in the field of corporate governance, incorporating corporate finance or management, and legal perspectives. This may include, but is not limited to, domestic, comparative and emerging approaches to the regulation of the rights, obligations and relationships among corporate stakeholders; evaluation of the extent to which different external or internal governance structures facilitate the financial and other goals of the corporation, and/or if and how the latter might be reconciled; the role of markets, financial intermediaries and government regulators in the governing of the firm; and the efficacy of different legal remedies available to both internal and external stakeholders against corporate officers and directors.

 

We are seeking a scholar with a strong research record and a demonstrated or emerging international reputation in corporate governance.  Applicants will be considered for a tenured appointment at the rank of Professor (preferred) or Associate Professor, based on qualifications and experience at the time of appointment.  The successful candidate will hold the DANCAP Chair for a renewable five-year term, with the appointment equally divided between the DAN Department and the Faculty of Law.

 

This endowed Chair is to be jointly appointed between the DAN Department of Management & Organizational Studies and the Faculty of Law. The home Faculty for the holder of the Chair will be the Faculty of Social Science.

 

Academic Expectations:

 

When in this role, the successful candidate will be expected to:

 

  • Maintain an active and high-impact research program;
  • Compete successfully for external research funding such as Tri-Council grants or other similar national or international peer-reviewed grant programs;
  • Teach corporate governance and related courses at the undergraduate and/or graduate level;
  •  Contribute to curriculum and program development; and
  • Provide leadership in corporate governance initiatives across both academic units.

 

Qualifications or Experience and Skills Required

 

Applicants must hold a PhD in a relevant field and demonstrate scholarly excellence, including publications in leading peer-reviewed journals or leading law reviews. Candidates with strong empirical and analytical expertise are especially encouraged to apply.

 

The holder of this Chair will have a proven research record in the field of corporate governance from both legal, and management/finance perspectives. This will be demonstrated by performance in the categories of Research, Teaching and Service as follows:

 

Research: A proven research record in corporate governance, incorporating perspectives and issues pertaining to corporate finance or management and the law, demonstrated by publications in leading peer-reviewed journals or leading law reviews.

 

Teaching: Experience in undergraduate and/or graduate teaching in courses relevant to corporate governance, business law, or related fields, with the ability to contribute to teaching in both the DAN Department of Management and Organizational Studies and the Faculty of Law's JD program.

 

Service: Evidence of service and leadership in the academic community, with a commitment to serving both units of the joint appointment.
