Position Description
The School of Languages, Linguistics, Literatures and Cultures at the University of Calgary invites applications for a contingent term position in French, at the rank of Assistant Professor (Teaching). This is a 2-year term effective July 1, 2024. The area of specialization is the teaching of French Second Language.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach seven undergraduate courses in French language and culture in a twelve-month cycle. They will also be expected to participate in curriculum/program and materials development, maintain currency in the scholarship of teaching at university level language programs, and may participate in course coordination and student mentoring. Service to the department and University is also expected.
To be considered, applicants must possess a PhD in a relevant area of Applied Linguistics (Second-Language Teaching or Pedagogy, Computer Assisted Language Instruction or Learning, Distance learning). French must be the main language research focus. Demonstrated evidence of excellence in teaching at the post-secondary level, as well as native or near-native competence in French are required. Teaching excellence can be demonstrated by presenting a record of relevant teaching experience at the post-secondary level, evidence of pedagogical innovation, experience with developing undergraduate curricula and student supervision and mentorship.
The Division of French and Francophone Studies is a research-intensive unit within the School of Languages, Linguistics, Literatures and Cultures with high standards in teaching, research, and community engagement. L’École de langues, linguistique, littératures et cultures de l’Université de Calgary sollicite des candidatures pour un poste de chargé de cours à temps plein d’une durée de deux ans (Two-Year Contingent Term Instructor), dans le domaine de l’enseignement du français langue seconde. La date d’entrée en fonction pour ce poste est le 1er juillet 2024.
Le/La candidat(e) sélectionné(e) sera appelée à enseigner sept cours de premier cycle en langue et culture françaises, dans un cycle de douze mois. Le/La candidat(e) sélectionné(e) devra également participer à l’élaboration du curriculum/programme et du matériel pédagogique; être à jour dans le domaine de recherche de la pédagogie de l’enseignement au niveau universitaire ; et participer à la coordination des cours ainsi qu’au mentorat des étudiants. Les services au département et à l'université sont également attendus.
Le/la candidate doit posséder un doctorat dans un domaine de la linguistique appliquée (didactique du français langue seconde (FSL) ou étrangère (FLE), pédagogie des langues secondes, enseignement ou apprentissage assistés par ordinateur, enseignement à distance). Les travaux de recherche doivent porter sur le français. Une preuve démontrée de l'excellence de l'enseignement au niveau postsecondaire, ainsi qu'une compétence native ou quasi native en français sont requises. L'excellence en enseignement peut être démontrée en présentant un dossier d'expérience d'enseignement au niveau postsecondaire, des preuves d'innovation pédagogique, une expérience en élaboration de programmes de premier cycle, en supervision et en mentorat des étudiants.
La Division des études françaises et francophones est une unité à forte intensité de recherche au sein de l'École des langues, linguistique, littératures et cultures avec des normes élevées en matière d'enseignement, de recherche et d'engagement communautaire.
