Indigenous Student Transition Program Coordinator
Brandon University invites applications for a full-time two-year term position as the Indigenous Student Transition Program Coordinator. The successful candidate will be responsible to the Director, Indigenous Peoples’ Centre for the provision of leadership and directives regarding current and new initiatives of the Al and Bee Wagner Indigenous Student Transition Program. This position will consult with Knowledge Keepers, Education Counsellors, Student Services professionals and communities as appropriate. The position aims to enhance access to and success at Brandon University for these learners.
The position includes duties as follows:
• In collaboration with the Director and Knowledge Keepers, continue the direction and long term objectives of the Program and strategic plan;
• Continue the design, delivery and evaluation of the program in response to academic programming and student needs;
• Facilitate and coordinate the admission and registration procedures and policies for the program;
• Produce reports relating to the evaluative aspects of the program;
• Evaluate the suitability of academic support required for the program’s applicants based on an assessment of their application to the program;
• Monitor and report overall student progress throughout each semester;
• In consultation with the Director, Indigenous Peoples’ Centre, and the Communications Office, develop, maintain and approve all advertisements and promotional material and/or information related to the program;
• Recruit students into the program via on and off campus presentations, information fairs, open houses, conferences etc.;
• Represent the program on internal and external committees and agencies as needed;
• Provide information about and make referrals to appropriate resources both on and off campus;
• Such other appropriate duties as assigned by the Director, Indigenous Peoples’ Centre through consultation with the incumbent.

Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree is required.

Applicants may seek to establish an experiential/traditional equivalency to the Bachelor’s degree and are invited to contact the Chair of the Selection Committee on how to establish equivalent academic or professional credentials.

A minimum of at least 2 years working with Indigenous learners in a secondary/post-secondary environment is preferred.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a proven understanding of Manitoba Indigenous histories, cultures and traditions.

This position has been defined to have an Indigenous focus and preference will be given to appropriately qualified candidates of First Nations, Métis, Inuit, or Non-Status identity and/or citizenship. Qualified short-listed candidates will be required to engage in a process to substantiate their Indigenous identity and/or citizenship in a culturally appropriate, fair, equitable, and transparent manner. Additional information regarding this process will be provided by the Chair of the Selection Committee.

Salary: Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
