The Department of Biology at Brandon University invites applications for the position of Instructional Associate with introductory emphasis in a continuing-track appointment to begin January 4, 2027, or as mutually agreed, subject to budgetary approval. The department of Biology is in a period of active growth and rejuvenation, particularly with respect to modernizing our undergraduate program. We seek an exceptional instructor with commitments to teaching excellence and pedagogical development, with that person able to adapt to a dynamic learning environment. The successful candidate will contribute to this momentum through a diverse repertoire of modern laboratory skills, and they will have outstanding skills in problem solving, communication, and organization.

Responsibilities: The successful applicant will deliver in-person laboratories for up to five sections per week for 15:162 Cell, Genetics and Evolution (CGE) and 15:163 Biodiversity, Functions and Interactions (BFI), two team-taught first-year courses required by all Biology students at BU.

As the CGE and BFI laboratory instructor, the successful applicant will be responsible for laboratory preparation, set-up, clean-up, laboratory safety, the preparation and marking of laboratory tests, the maintenance of laboratory records, coordination with other members of the CGE and BFI teaching teams regarding laboratory content and assessment, and the supervision of graduate students and undergraduate student assistants for marking, dishwashing, and the greenhouse. In cooperation with other departmental IAs, additional duties include ordering for laboratory classes for other Biology courses, ordering and receiving departmental supplies, maintaining and storing departmental equipment, and maintaining departmental teaching inventories.

Qualifications: an M.Sc. in Biology or a related discipline is required, although a Ph.D. is preferred. Evidence of a successful record of laboratory instruction and demonstrated expertise in both traditional methods and molecular biological techniques is required. Applicants may seek to establish an experiential/traditional equivalency to the Master's Degree and are invited to contact the Office of the Dean of Science on how to establish equivalent academic or professional credentials.

Rank: Instructional Associate

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
