University of Manitoba

The Department of Student Services at Bannatyne Campus invites applications for a full-time counsellor position at the rank of Instructor I level, commencing July 1, 2025, or on a mutually agreed upon date. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The successful candidate will work as part of an inter-disciplinary mental health team to provide individual and group counselling services for learners at the Bannatyne Campus, including undergraduate and graduate students and medical residents in the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences. The successful candidate will be involved in a combination of other activities, including program development, outreach, crisis intervention, consultation to faculty, staff, and students, and University and community service. This position is located at the Bannatyne Campus of the University of Manitoba with some flexibility for remote work. This position requires 40hrs/week including scheduled evening appointments. A benefit package and professional development support accompanies this position.

A minimum of a master’s degree in a counselling profession (e.g., Clinical Psychology, Counselling Psychology, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or Counselling) is required. The preferred candidate must have a minimum of two years of supervised counselling experience with adults (please detail this training in your cover letter). As well, the preferred candidate must have familiarity with diversity (e.g., Indigenous persons, persons with disabilities, international populations, and those who identify as 2SLGBTQIA+) and experience working with these populations. Counselling experience with health sciences students or within a postsecondary institution is preferred. Assets include experience with acute and complex trauma, crisis response, and community outreach. A commitment to the promotion of a positive campus community, including the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary service delivery environment, with a richly diverse population of students, staff, faculty, volunteers, and administrators is important.

To enhance our department and create role models for a diverse population of students, we particularly invite applications from those who will increase and support our diversity, including Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, racialized persons, members of underrepresented groups such as 2SLGBTQIA+, and those committed to an inclusive environment.

Applications including a curriculum vitae, a description of counselling philosophy, detailed description of supervised counselling experience or training and contact information for three references can be sent directly to Cyndi Kindret at the address provided below or uploaded directly through the UM Careers website https://umanitoba.ca/careers/ (PDF files preferred).
