Lecturer - BMLSc Program, UBC Pathology and Laboratory Medicine

The Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Department on the UBC Vancouver campus is seeking a full-time (1.0 FTE) Lecturer for the Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science Program (BMLSc), for a 1 year term with possibility of renewal.

The UBC Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, within the UBC Faculty of Medicine , is an active, interdisciplinary, and collaborative department that counts over 45 academic Faculty and 300 clinical Faculty, distributed across multiple sites within the province. The Department hosts an undergraduate program, the Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLSc) Program with up to 48 students, a Graduate Program typically counting 65-75 students, as well as a Residency Program with up to 40 residents. For over 40 years, the BMLSc Program has provided interdisciplinary and evolving education to diverse cohorts. The highly regarded Program offers courses in Years 3 and 4, that are taught by clinical and academic faculty, and laboratory staff. In the summer, the BMLSc staff offers a UBC Vancouver Summer Program, a four-week educational program for international students. The BMLSc Program provides a collegial environment for educators, with opportunities for collaboration regarding teaching practices, and course design.

Reporting to the Director of the BMLSc Program, the successful candidate will be expected to teach a full course load in the BMLSc program of both three hundred and four hundred level courses, teach in the Vancouver Summer Program, and possibly teach, and/or provide course coordination for a new 200 level course. In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will assist the Director with some administrative duties such as supporting the co-op program placements, and attending student recruitment events. The successful candidate will participate in relevant service activities within the Department.

The successful candidate will contribute to fostering an environment that promotes inclusivity and embodies values of respect, integrity, compassion, collaboration, and equity. The successful candidate will have a PhD, have demonstrated evidence of ability in teaching, and the promise to achieve excellence in teaching. In addition, the successful candidate will have demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and interact with empathy, understanding and, respect of diverse perspectives. Experience in collaborating and bringing forward projects with diverse groups, including colleagues, students, and/or stakeholders, is valued.

The expected salary for this position is $106,000 per annum.
