Qualifications 

The successful candidate will have high teaching potential demonstrated through experience and/or expertise, professional development, effort, and enthusiasm at the undergraduate and/or graduate level in business and society, including business sustainability. Teaching experience at an AACSB/EQUIS accredited Business School and applied relevant work experience in a business environment or a community organization is an asset. The successful candidate has an ability to engage diverse learners in the classroom using innovative and experiential pedagogies and teaching practices informed by the latest research and current sustainable business practice. The successful candidate will help Beedie deliver on its commitment to “prepare graduates to make responsible decisions and contribute to regenerative and reconciled economies by considering the systemic impacts of their decisions now and in the future.”

We will accept applications from candidates that hold a doctoral-level degree or at minimum a Master's degree in management or a discipline directly related to the core subjects to be taught. Candidates should also demonstrate teaching experience that aligns with the Beedie School of Business’ strategic priorities of innovation, social responsibility, and global perspective. This is a teaching-focused position, and the appointment and subsequent performance reviews will emphasize teaching and educational contributions. Research activity and scholarly publication are not expected as part of the role.

Duties

The successful candidate will be expected to teach eight course sections per year in the Business and Society area, including business sustainability. The courses seek to address a range of topics related to: systems thinking, socio- and ecological resilience, life cycle thinking, voluntary standards and regulatory trends, sustainability strategy, corporate sustainability performance, governance and oversight of sustainability, sustainable supply chains, and change agency. The area is also committed to honouring both Indigenous and Western worldviews in its courses. SFU operates on a trimester system and a lecturer is expected to teach during all three terms: Fall, Spring, and Summer. A typical load is three courses in each of first two terms and two courses in the remaining term and may include core Business and Society courses, including BUS275 - Business in a Sustainable Society and BUS716 - Sustainability, offered at the undergraduate and graduate levels respectively. 

The lecturer will have responsibility for the preparation and instruction of a range of undergraduate and graduate level courses and may be called upon to provide leadership in curriculum development. Teaching faculty members are expected to contribute to the Beedie School of Business’ teaching excellence, actively participate in school’s collegial self-governance, and offer assistance and guidance to students, peers, and the academic community through activities such as committee work, mentorship, and co-curricular learning opportunities such as coaching a case competition team.

• A statement outlining your perspective on Beedie, including its pillar and calling on social responsibility and Indigeneity commitment, as well as SFU’s strategic priorities concerning upholding truth and reconciliation, engaging in global challenges, and making a difference for BC. You are also asked to include your personal goals for impact stemming from teaching and service, including engagements and contributions outside of the classroom. 
• Names and email addresses of three referees who are willing to provide reference letters in support of your application and can provide insight on your potential for teaching excellence in business sustainability. SFU will contact referees directly.

Faculty salaries at SFU are based on the salary scales bargained between the University and the SFU Faculty Association. A reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role at the Lecturer Rank is $98,340-$114,241, dependent on experience. Benefits are in addition to this range.
