Limited Term Appointment – Wind Orchestra
The Faculty of Music at Wilfrid Laurier University invites applications for a one-year (renewable) Limited Term Appointment at the rank of Lecturer in the area of Wind Orchestra, commencing July 1, 2024. This position is subject to budgetary approval.
The successful candidate will be responsible for directing Wind Orchestra, and teaching other core and elective courses in the Bachelor of Music program which match the candidate’s qualifications and expertise. Possible areas of expertise may include but are not limited to: musical (aural) skills; woodwind techniques; music education; choir; choral techniques; orchestration; jazz harmony; jazz history; community and/or commercial music. The successful candidate will also serve on audition, jury and graduation recital panels as necessary, support recruitment initiatives and engage in committee work in the Faculty.
Applicants for this position must have the following qualifications:
• Masters degree in Music with specialization in Conducting, Performance or Music Education, terminal degree in the field of music is an asset;
• Wind band conducting experience (3+ years), University level preferred;
• Strong administrative skills;
• Evidence of excellence in wind band conducting;
• Evidence of successful teaching record at the undergraduate level;
• Evidence of diversity and inclusion in programming and pedagogy; and,
• Expertise in teaching additional core and elective courses in music.

These centres are dedicated to advancing knowledge in music therapy and community music, respectively.

• a letter of interest that speaks to the qualifications for the position including a list of courses the candidate has expertise to teach;
• a curriculum vitae;
• sample wind band programs;
• video(s) of wind band conducting in performance (10-20 minutes);
• video(s) of wind band conducting in rehearsal (10-20 minutes);
• evidence of teaching effectiveness (such as a course outlines, peer teaching reviews, student success and feedback; course evaluations; other teaching dossier materials). Candidates with prior university teaching experience are expected to provide institutional teaching evaluations;
• a Philosophy of Teaching and Pedagogical Values statement, with concrete examples;
• the names of three referees that can speak to professionalism, teaching effectiveness, character, and collegiality. Only shortlisted applicants will have their referees contacted for letters.
