LIMITED-TERM FACULTY POSITION IN GERONTOLOGY

Laurentian University

Candidates must have completed a PhD degree by the start date of the appointment. Relevant teaching and research experience will be an asset. The successful candidate will have the following essential qualifications:

• A PhD in Gerontology, or in a related field.
• Extensive experience in teaching courses related to aging, the life course, and older adults, theories and methods of research in gerontology; areas of further thematic specialization in gerontology are open.
• Evidence of the ability to effectively teach undergraduate courses with a commitment to pedagogical and academic excellence, promoting a safe, inclusive, and welcoming
learning environment, and advancing Laurentian University’s bilingual and tricultural mandates.
• Actively engaging and participating in teaching and research, the successful candidate will have a strong presence on-campus, contributing to the School, Faculty, University, and broader community. The candidate will engage primarily in online asynchronous teaching with the option to lead an on-campus course, and will play a key role in the preparation of internal quality assurance documentation for the Gerontology program (Online).
• The successful candidate will engage actively on-campus in our culture of research and teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate level, contributing to the School, Faculty, University, and broader community. The candidate will participate in program development and oversight of hybrid and online learning, all in a collegial campus environment.
• Evidence of relevant research and scholarship with the potential to work collaboratively with colleagues and build internal and external interdisciplinary or intersectoral collaborations.
Commitment to promoting a diverse, inclusive, and vibrant academic and work environment.
• Though the teaching for this position is in English, the selected candidate is expected to have active knowledge of both official languages (functional bilingualism) or passive comprehension of the French/English languages (receptive bilingualism).

Since the Gerontology program is located in the School of Social Sciences, the successful candidate will participate actively, and on site, in the administration of the program and the supervision of students. In addition to active engagement and participating in teaching, the incumbent will be expected to make contributions through service to the School, Faculty, University, and broader community.


With bilingual and tricultural faculty, the School of Social Sciences offers programs in English and French. Apart from undergraduate programs in Criminology; Economics; Equity, Diversity and Human Rights; Gerontology; Psychology; and Sociology; the School offers a MA Interdisciplinary Master of Arts in Relational Studies, and a PhD in Human Studies and Interdisciplinarity.

Laurentian University, located on Atikameksheng Anishnawbek territory in Sudbury, Ontario, serves over 8000 students and is one of two bilingual universities in the province of Ontario.
