Research Associate

University of British Columbia

The Department of Civil Engineering at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver campus invites applications for a full-time, Research Associate appointment in the BIM TOPiCS Lab led by Dr. Sheryl Staub-French.  The initial appointment will be for one year with the possibility of renewal subject to funding availability and job performance. The anticipated start date is September 14th 2026. The salary is $80,110.80 CAD per year.[SFS1] 

The Research Associate will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Conduct research on innovation in the construction sector with a particular emphasis on Building Information Modeling (BIM), Digital Twins, Integrated Project Delivery, and Indigenous engagement on construction projects. 
  • Manage partnerships with government and private organizations, including scheduling and managing meetings, preparing progress reports, and project budgeting and control.
  • Assist with grant applications and project management of research projects.
  • Develop and implement research protocols and methods to collect and analyze relevant research data. 
  • Contribute to the development of research papers and reports for relevant academic and industry audiences. 
  • Train, mentor, and supervise graduate and undergraduate research students.

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • A Ph.D. in Project & Construction Management or a closely related discipline.
  • A minimum of three (3) publications in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals and three (3) publications in conferences or research reports, including at least five (5) as first author.
