Tenure Track Position - Cross-Appointed - Department of Political Science and Sociology

University of Prince Edward Island

The Faculty of Arts at the University of Prince Edward Island welcomes applications for an interdisciplinary tenure track position in Political Sociology, jointly appointed to the Department of Sociology and Anthropology and the Department of Political Science. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong record of innovative research and publishing dealing with social policy issues, including but not limited to health policy (including mental health), homelessness, addictions and other public policy areas dealing with public welfare. The successful candidate will teach courses cross-listed in both departments. Expertise in quantitative methods would be an asset. The successful candidate may be required to teach in graduate programs in the Faculty of Arts. UPEI’s Faculty of Arts has a strong reputation for excellence in teaching and we welcome scholars who demonstrate effectiveness in the classroom.

Appointment date August 1, 2024 or shortly thereafter, potentially negotiable.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have a completed doctoral degree or ABD with defence imminent in Sociology, Political Science, Political Sociology, or a related field with preference given to candidates with a background in social policy. The candidate will also have a strong record of success in teaching at the undergraduate level, and a strong record of innovative research and publishing appropriate to this level of appointment.

Salary will be determined according to rank and experience. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.

A complete application must include the following: a cover letter outlining how the candidate would contribute to both departments of Sociology and Anthropology and Political Science in the areas specified above, a curriculum vitae, a teaching dossier (to include a statement of teaching philosophy, sample syllabi of courses and interdisciplinary courses in the subject area, and teaching evaluations or other evidence of teaching success), a research statement outlining current and future research projects, and three academic letters of reference. Candidates will submit a one-page statement explaining how they will implement the principles of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in their teaching, research and scholarly work.
