The Department of Earth Sciences at the University of New Brunswick, Fredericton campus invites applications for a full-time, 4-year term position at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor to teach primarily undergraduate courses in structural geology, rock mechanics, and field geology.  Start date is September 1, 2026. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.

The department offers major programs in Earth Sciences, Environmental Geoscience, and a Geological Engineering program in partnership with UNB Civil Engineering. The core mission of our programs and curriculum are to provide comprehensive education and training for the next generation of Earth scientists and geoscience practitioners. These programs provide the knowledge requirements and graduate attributes required for professional licensure. Candidate eligibilities for professional licensure in geoscience and in engineering would therefore be assets. 

We seek candidates with a background in structural geology and rock mechanics or allied fields with an M.S. or Ph.D. with a record of teaching excellence and providing experiential learning opportunities. Teaching responsibilities - nominally 6 term courses per year - are expected to include some combination of the following: ESCI2321 Structural Geology I; ESCI3322 Structural Geology II; ESCI3411 Rock Mechanics; ESCI3703 3rd year field school; ESCI1003 Earth Sciences and Sustainability for Engineers; and new term-based online courses in collaboration with the Faculty of Science, Applied Science and Engineering on the Saint John campus.
