Leave-Vacancy Replacement Librarian (UMFA Term)

The University of Manitoba Libraries seeks effective, highly-motivated people for the positions of Leave-Vacancy Replacement Librarian (UMFA Term) at a General/Assistant Librarian rank to begin November 1, 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter. These positions are 2-year term positions. There are 3 positions. The salary and rank are commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:

• A Master’s degree in library and/or information studies from an ALA accredited or equivalent institution;
• Demonstrated experience providing services in an academic library such as liaison/public service, technical service, electronic resources, research support,systems, and user experience/assessment;
• Demonstrated experience in the areas of teaching and instruction support;
• Knowledge and understanding of best practices, current issues and trends in academic libraries;
• Demonstrated ability to manage a complex workload in a timely and effective manner;
• Effective oral and written communication skills;
• Demonstrated teamwork and interpersonal skills.

Candidates with the following additional qualifications will be preferred:

• A minimum 2 years of experience in an academic library.

These positions are responsible for leave replacements and special projects with the University of Manitoba Libraries and could include positions in liaison/public service, technical service, electronic resources, research support, systems and user experience/assessment. The libraries consist of 11 units located on the Fort Garry and Bannatyne campuses. With collections of over 2 million volumes, an annual operating budget of 28 million and approximately 150 employees, the Libraries support, enhance and transform learning, teaching and research for a campus community of approximately 38,000 students, faculty and staff.
