The Department of Physiology & Pathophysiology in the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences and Max Rady College of Medicine at the University of Manitoba invites applications for a full-time tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, commencing on September 1, 2019, or on a date mutually agreed upon. The department is seeking an individual with strong research capabilities in endocrine and metabolic systems and who is capable of training graduate, undergraduate and medical students as well as postdoctoral and clinical fellows through teaching and mentorship. The successful applicant has peer-recognized expertise in studying endocrinology and metabolic diseases using model systems such as animal models. This position is linked to an ongoing development of translational collaborative research capability focused on endocrine and metabolic diseases, thus applicants with a strong interest in building cross-disciplinary research teams are particularly encouraged to apply. Start-up funds will be provided, and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The successful candidate will be a member of the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases. The new recruit will be expected to develop and maintain an externally funded research program that will preferably complement or extend the division's strengths in the area of physiology and pathophysiology of endocrine and metabolic functions, as well as their diseases. Other duties will include undergraduate teaching, graduate teaching and supervision of graduate students and fellows. The successful candidate is expected to establish an innovative research and training program that is capable of engaging in broad collaborations with colleagues from both basic science departments and clinical departments.
Applicants must have an earned doctorate or equivalent degree in physiology or a related field in biomedical sciences. A successful period of postdoctoral training in endocrine and metabolic physiology using multi-disciplinary cross-cutting techniques, and a demonstrated ability to develop and implement cutting edge experimental approaches is required. This position will have a significant research component with some teaching in relevant areas. A productive publication history in high quality, peer-reviewed journals and the potential to secure competitive, extramural research funding are expected. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated expertise with novel models of endocrine or metabolic disease and phenotyping. Demonstrated evidence of the ability to work in a collaborative environment would be considered an added strength.
The successful applicant will have access to core Faculty resources including Central Animal Core Imaging, Transgenic Models facilities, lentiviral vector production, molecular imaging, histomorphology and ultrastructural imaging, flow cytometry, and proteomics.
