Assistant Professor in Grain Chemistry and Processing Quality

Job Description
The Department of Food and Human Nutritional Sciences, Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences, University of Manitoba invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor focusing on Grain Chemistry and Processing Quality. The position starts July 1, 2020, or as soon as possible thereafter.

Responsibilities
The position will contribute to the Department of Food and Human Nutritional Sciences’ teaching, research and outreach functions grounded in the University of Manitoba’s research priority area related to Safe, Healthy, Just and Sustainable Food Systems. The departmental strategic areas include: 1) Food Quality and Acceptability; 2) Food Safety and Preservation; 3) Metabolic and Molecular Nutrition; and 4) Applied Human Nutrition. The department offers undergraduate and graduate programs in both Food Science and Human Nutritional Sciences. The Food Science undergraduate program is approved by the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT), and the Human Nutritional Sciences undergraduate program is accredited by the Partnership for Dietetic Education and Practice.

The successful candidate will join a community of innovators that supports collaborations. In addition to food and nutritional sciences, the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences has expertise in agronomy, plant breeding, animal science and agricultural economics. The city of Winnipeg, Manitoba is the hub of the Canadian grain industry and home to unique infrastructure and research capacity in the grains sector, including the Canadian Grain Commission, the Grain Research Laboratory, the Canadian International Grains Institute, and several research institutes, including the Canadian Centre for Agri-Food Research in Health and Medicine and the Richardson Centre for Functional Foods and Nutraceuticals. These attributes make an ideal environment to foster a program in grain chemistry and processing quality.

Qualifications
Qualified applicants must possess a PhD in Food Science or a closely related discipline; a record of research as demonstrated by scholarly publications, which might include publications arising from research as a graduate student and/or post-PhD training; the potential for developing an active externally-funded research program, including supervision of graduate students; demonstrated ability or potential for high quality undergraduate and graduate teaching; and excellent oral and written communication skills in English. The successful candidate will be required to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in their area of expertise.
