Assistant Professor, Physical Therapy

Western University

The Faculty of Health Sciences (https://www.uwo.ca/fhs/) at Western University invites applications for a full-time probationary (tenure-track) position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the School of Physical Therapy with academic responsibilities in research, teaching and service. Qualified applicants must have a PhD or equivalent and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario. Applicants demonstrating expertise in enhancing functional mobility, and rehabilitation science that aims to understand, improve, restore and/or manage mobility outcomes for the attainment of health and wellness are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to applicants with a strong record of achievements in research for their stage of career. The selected appointee will be expected to establish and maintain an externally funded research program, teach in the School of Physical Therapy, and supervise graduate students in the Faculty of Health Sciences graduate programs. The successful applicant will also have a demonstrated capacity to contribute substantively to an inclusive and diverse academic community. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The effective date of the appointment is July 1, 2021 or as negotiated.

The School of Physical Therapy (https://www.uwo.ca/fhs/pt/) is a research-intensive unit with innovative professional and graduate programs. Physical Therapy research aligns well with Faculty and University strategic investments, including Western’s Bone and Joint Institute (https://boneandjoint.uwo.ca/), Brain and Mind Institute (https://www.uwo.ca/bmi/), and the newly established Gray Centre for Mobility & Activity within St. Joseph’s Health Care Parkwood Institute. The School is home to the Masters of Physical Therapy (MPT) program; and leads two fields of study in the Masters of Clinical Science in Advanced Healthcare Practice including Comprehensive Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy, and Interprofessional Pain Management; and leads the Physical Therapy Field in the MSc and PhD programs in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, including the combined MPT/PhD program. The School has three research Chairs and has strong clinical and academic partners within the London community with international recognition (e.g., Hand and Upper Limb Centre, Fowler Kennedy Sport Medicine Clinic, Parkwood Institute, and Thames Valley Children's Centre). The School also has active research links with the four Research Centres in the Faculty, including the Canadian Centre for Activity and Aging (https://www.uwo.ca/ccaa/), the Centre for Research in Health Equity and Social Inclusion (https://crhesi.uwo.ca/), the National Centre for Audiology (https://www.uwo.ca/nca/), and the International Centre for Olympic Studies (https://www.uwo.ca/olympic/).
