The Faculty of Education, York University invites highly qualified candidates to apply for a professorial stream tenure-track appointment in Digital Futures in Education at the Assistant Professor level, to commence July 1, 2022. Digital education has taken central place during the pandemic and new possibilities have been envisioned. York has made a strategic commitment to be at the centre of digital futures in learning and this hire in digital scholarship is of high strategic importance to the faculty and the university. A leadership role in scholarship in this post is envisaged. The successful applicant will contribute fully and broadly to the Bachelor of Education and the Bachelor of Arts in Educational Studies within the faculty, as well as the Graduate Program. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. All York University positions are subject to budgetary approval.
A PhD or a PhD by the start of the appointment in education or a related field is required, with a demonstrated record of excellence or promise of excellence in research and in teaching. Applicants should have a clearly articulated program of research and specialize in one or more of the following areas: new media literacies, teaching and learning with digital technology, multi-modal literacies, theoretical and practical aspects of digital education, and contemporary digital pedagogy. Experience in school settings as well as a demonstrated commitment to pedagogy with the potential for leadership will be considered strong assets.
The successful candidate will be expected to engage in outstanding, innovative, and as appropriate, externally funded research at the highest level.
Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence or promise of research excellence of a recognized international calibre as demonstrated in: the research statement; a record of publications (or forthcoming publications) with significant journals in the field; presentations at major conferences; awards and accolades; and strong recommendations from referees of high standing.
The position will involve graduate teaching and supervision, as well as undergraduate teaching and the successful candidate must be suitable for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies.
Evidence of excellence or promise of excellence in teaching will be provided through: the teaching statement; teaching accomplishments and pedagogical innovations including in high priority areas such as experiential education and technology enhanced learning; teaching evaluations; and strong letters of reference.
