The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry was named in 2004 in tribute to a generous benefaction made by Seymour Schulich to support student scholarships and increase access to medical and dental education. Over 2,400 full- and part-time faculty can be found in clinical and basic medical sciences, dentistry, and the internationally renowned Robarts Research Institute; the staff complement is comprised of 1,200 individuals; and, each year, approximately 3,000+ students pursue programs that enable them to become socially responsible contributors to the advancement of human health. Research at Schulich continues to flourish, with faculty attracting about $153M in research funds annually. Schulich has a wide array of external partners—including St. Joseph’s Health Care, London Health Sciences Centre, and Lawson Health Research Institute—and, through its clinical training, research, and outreach services, has a significant footprint in both rural and regional communities. The Dean is the chief academic officer of the School and a member of the University’s academic leadership team. Reporting to the Provost & Vice-President (Academic), the Dean is accountable for the School’s strategic vision, for ensuring the academic quality and integrity of its programs and operations, for championing fundraising efforts and strengthening relationships with the greater community, and for enhancing the School’s research profile nationally and worldwide. The successful candidate is an excellent scholar appointable to the rank of Full Professor, possesses an MD and/or PhD or equivalent, and has extensive administrative experience gained in a medical-doctoral university and/or an academic health sciences environment. The new Dean brings high emotional intelligence, an innovative, strategic, and collaborative leadership style, and a successful track record of change management and mentoring teams.
