Limited Term Instructor Position, Environmental Science

The Environmental Science program in the Faculty of Science invites applications for a 10-month, limited term appointment (80% FTE) at the rank of Instructor commencing August 1, 2019 (negotiable).

The Environmental Science program provides a dynamic setting for innovative, interdisciplinary scholarship that addresses important societal challenges related to the interaction of earth system processes and human development. We have a passion for making the world a much better place through the establishment, application and integration of knowledge in support of sustainability. Our program delivers a major/honours in Environmental Science (B.Sc.) as well as several options for combined majors with other sciences, arts or the College of Sustainability and a minor in environmental studies in degree programs across the university.

Instructor (80% FTE, 10-Month Limited Term Appointment)
We are seeking a colleague with interdisciplinary competencies and teaching experience in the environmental sciences and associated issues. The ideal candidate has expertise related to earth systems science, human use of resources and current sustainability challenges. We seek a scholar with excellent teaching records suited to student directed, interdisciplinary and experiential learning as applied to problem solving and current environmental challenges. Preference will be given to applicants with a strong teaching record at the university level. Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills are needed, as are strong organizational skills. Attention to details and the ability to work with minimal supervision is required. The position includes responsibility for the following courses: ENVS 1100 and 1200 (Foundations and Challenges in Environmental Science), ENVS 3501 (Environmental Problem Solving), and ENVS 3502 (Environmental Problem Solving II – Campus as a Living Lab). Candidates must hold at minimum a Master's degree.

The Environmental Science program is part of the Faculty of Science, Atlantic Canada's science powerhouse. The Faculty of Science, with over 3,700 students, 200 faculty members and 470 graduate level students, is Dalhousie's largest faculty.
