The Department of Medicine, Division of Critical Care Medicine, within the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry at Western University, invites applications for a full-time probationary (tenure-track) faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Health Services Research. The successful candidate will also hold a cross-appointment in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics.

Candidates must have a PhD relevant to Health Services Research or a related discipline and experience in critical care research. Qualifications also include experience as a post-doctoral scholar, evidence of research productivity (peer-reviewed publications) and a strong commitment to excellence in teaching. The successful candidate will have potential or proven ability to obtain internal and external grants for independent research in Health Services Research and/or Implementation Science, and to contribute to the building of successful research projects and programs in population and public health, in health services and policy, or in clinical research. Furthermore, the candidate must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be able to work effectively to promote and contribute to collaborative interdisciplinary initiatives. Salary for this position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach at the undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate levels. Responsibilities of this position will also include supervision of research trainees. Active participation in research projects and on committees within the Department of Medicine and the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, or on behalf of the Departments, will also be expected.

Western is one of Canada’s leading research-intensive universities, and the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry has a long history of excellence in basic biomedical, applied and clinical research. Western has a full range of academic and professional programs for over 37,000 undergraduate and graduate students.

The Critical Care Program is centralized in two London Health Sciences Centre sites, University Hospital and Victoria Hospital. Sixty-five adult multi-disciplinary Level III critical care beds support all medical and surgical services, including invasive cardiology, cardiac surgery, thoracic, vascular, clinical neurosciences, and multi-organ transplantation. The Critical Care faculty includes twenty-four intensivists from medical, anesthetic and surgical backgrounds, two neurologists and a palliative care physician. The program in Critical Care is a well-established Royal College training program and facilitates an internationally renowned multi-disciplinary research program in both the clinical and basic sciences.

The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics offers an Honors Specialization, Major and Minor Module at the undergraduate level and our graduate offerings include a PhD program and a thesis-based MSc program.
