The Human Early Learning Partnership (http://earlylearning.ubc.ca) is a prominent interdisciplinary research centre with a focus on child development, situated within the School of Population and Public Health, in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia, one of Canada's premier public research universities (www.ubc.ca).
Under the supervision of Dr. Kimberly A. Schonert-Reichl (HELP Faculty Affiliate, Associate Member in the School of Population and Public Health, Lead of the Social and Emotional Learning Research Lab, and PI of the Middle Years Development Instrument program of research) and with the support and mentorship provided by HELP faculty members as well as by research collaborators across UBC – the incumbent will conduct quantitative research on early adolescent development, drawing from theory and research on child health, social and emotional learning (SEL), resiliency, social determinants of health, and ecological perspectives on child and youth development. The Research Associate will have access to unique data sources, will conduct SEL intervention research, and work within an interdisciplinary research environment. The position primarily focuses on designing and conducting intervention research with early adolescents in the area of SEL and resiliency, data analysis, and manuscript writing for scientific/academic journals and other outlets; opportunities for contributing to teaching, grant writing, knowledge translation, and community presentations also exist.

• PhD in child development, human development, (developmental) psychology, or a related field, with a particular focus on early adolescence.
• Expertise and experience in a number of statistical methodologies, and confidence in conducting basic (e.g., regression, ANOVA) and advanced (e.g., multilevel modeling) statistical analyses using software such as R, Mplus, SPSS, Stats, SAS.
• Knowledge and some experience in using qualitative methodologies and analytic strategies;
• Strong foundation in research design and measurement (e.g., validity, reliability) in relation to developmental theory/social and emotional learning/risk and resiliency.
• Demonstrated interest and commitment to work in areas of social and emotional learning and well-being in children and youth;
• Enthusiasm for intellectual rigor and engagement;
• Excellent writing ability and publication record;
• Ability and willingness to work productively in a fast-paced and often demanding environment, with deadlines;
• Experience working in a team environment;
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Experience with project management is a plus.
