The University of Ontario Institute of Technology’s (UOIT) Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science (FEAS) invites applications for nomination to a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair (CRC) position. The successful nominee will lead an exceptional research program that focuses on next-generation aerodynamic and aero-acoustic technologies and innovations.
The successful candidate is expected to have the necessary qualifications to be appointed at the level of full professor. Additionally, to meet the criteria for a Tier 1 CRC, nominees must be outstanding and innovative world-class researchers whose accomplishments have made a major impact in their fields, be recognized internationally as leaders in their fields, have superior records of attracting and supervising graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, and mentoring future researchers. The CRC’s research program will be supported by UOIT’s unique research platform designed to spur innovation in the automotive industry. Canada and Ontario’s governments have invested significantly in UOIT’s Automotive Centre of Excellence (ACE), a state of the art 16,300m2 facility with the capability to perform high fidelity aerodynamic, aero-acoustic and thermodynamic testing in the same location. ACE houses a flexible climatic wind tunnel with yaw capabilities on its dynamometer and two climatic chambers, a climatic 4-post shaker chamber, and a multi-axis simulation table in a hemi-anechoic chamber. Critical to Canada’s commitment to lead in a competitive marketplace through a highly skilled and innovative workforce, ACE attracts industry and academic partners in highly diverse fields of automotive research and testing, and an ever-growing number of research and market sector partners. UOIT will also support a CRC research program through FEAS’ strong research capacity in research areas such as mechatronics, automotive, software, vehicle dynamics and powertrain systems. In addition, a CRC research program will have access to a regional technology development site anchored at UOIT under the provincial government’s Autonomous Vehicle Innovation Network program. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in a related engineering discipline such as automotive or mechanical engineering and a strong track record of success as evidenced by an internationally recognized publication record in related areas such as bluff body or vehicle aerodynamics, aeroacoustics and fluid-structure interactions. An outstanding researcher acknowledged as a world leader in their field, the candidate has a record of accomplishment fostering and leading collaborative and interdisciplinary research teams. The candidate will articulate an original and innovative plan for their research program that complements ongoing research programs at UOIT and will engage with regional, national, and international research networks and industry partnerships. An exceptional external research funding record is required along with a proven ability to attract and develop excellent students and future researchers. In addition, the candidate must be registered, or eligible for, and committed to, registration as a Professional Engineer (PEng) in the Province of Ontario.

This position falls within the bargaining unit represented by the UOIT Faculty Association and will be subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement between the University and the UOIT Faculty Association. The collective agreement may be found on the Human Resources section of our website. Starting salary will be commensurate with experience and annual salary increases are administered as per the terms outlined in the tenured and tenure track collective agreement.
