Two (2) Limited Term Faculty Positions in Biomedical Sciences

The Department of Chemistry and Biology in the Faculty of Science at Ryerson University (www.ryerson.ca) is pleased to invite applications for two (2), one-year, Limited Term Faculty (LTF) positions at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of biomedical sciences. The appointments shall be effective August 1, 2019 to July 31, 2020, subject to final budgetary approval.
Each position will have teaching and course management obligations for a range of courses including, Position 1: first year biology, anatomy and physiology, stem cells, and genomics; Position 2: first year biology, human genetics, molecular genetics and protein biochemistry.
The Department of Chemistry and Biology consists of 36 tenure-stream faculty members. The Department offers undergraduate and graduate (Master’s and Doctoral) programs. Our faculty prides itself on the excellence of its research and on the quality of its teaching. We are interested in candidates that will contribute to teaching strengths by bringing innovative and diverse perspectives and experiences to their work.
Limited Term Faculty appointments at Ryerson University may not exceed a combined total of four years. Applicants with prior Ryerson LTF appointments need to consider this limitation, as it may render them ineligible to apply.
The successful candidate will contribute to our undergraduate programs through teaching and service duties, only. The candidate will engage in maintaining an inclusive, equitable, and collegial work environment across all activities.
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in an area of biomedical science and have post-secondary teaching experience.
Evidence of, or potential for, excellence in teaching must be provided through a statement of teaching philosophy and, if available, descriptions of teaching accomplishments, including experience with course/curriculum review/development, excellent pedagogical practice, sample syllabi and teaching evaluations. Please demonstrate evidence of strong communication skills.
Candidates must have a demonstrated commitment to our values of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) as it pertains to service, teaching, and scholarly research or creative activities, including a demonstrated ability to make learning accessible and inclusive for a diverse student population. Evidence of commitment to EDI must be provided through a diversity statement that outlines how candidates have demonstrated their commitment through teaching and service.
