Two Tenure/Tenure-Track Structural Engineering Faculty Positions
The Faculty of Engineering at McMaster University invites applications from outstanding candidates for two tenure/tenure-track positions in Structural Engineering within the Department of Civil Engineering. As one of the top civil engineering programs globally [ranked among the top 30 in the world.

The two tenure/tenure-track positions are targeted at the Assistant/Associate Professor levels; however, highly qualified individuals will be considered at the Full Professor level. We seek unique and dynamic colleagues who will positively contribute to the research, teaching, and service efforts of the Department. We are particularly interested in candidates who have the ability to collaboratively engage in experimental research at the Applied Dynamics Laboratory within an interdisciplinary and student-centred environment, and who have a track record involving: earthquake engineering; emerging areas in structural design for extreme events; smart structural systems; and/or AI applications in structural engineering.
Applicants are expected to have a PhD in Civil or Structural Engineering and must demonstrate a successful record of research, reflected by publication in relevant high-quality peer-reviewed journals and (for established researchers) external grant acquisition. The successful candidates will teach both undergraduate and graduate level courses. They will also be expected to establish a strong externally-funded research program, supervise graduate students, and foster collaborations with colleagues in the Department of Civil Engineering, other departments, and/or other faculties.
Applicants should possess leadership skills, a commitment to excellence in service, and have the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures. All candidates will be expected to participate in the normal administrative, educational and professional activities of the Department, Faculty and University. Applicants are expected to have engineering licenses for practice in Canada or the ability and eligibility to apply for an engineering license with the Professional Engineers of Ontario within 5 years.
